Welcome to Tamarack Theatre
Started in 2020 with an inaugural performance at SKAMpede, Tamarack Theatre's mission is to create and produce original works by and with autistic performers, provide a creative space for autistic and other neurodivergent people to learn about theatre and story-telling, and develop community outreach projects devoted to advocacy and acceptance of neurodivergent people.
Tamarack Theatre is also the producer of the Confidential Musical Theatre Project - Victoria Chapter.
Defending The Planet
SKAMpede 2024
July 13 & 14
Tamarack Theatre presents "Defending the Planet" in SKAMpede 2024, an outdoor theatre festival along the Inner Harbour and the Gorge. Find us on the Songhees Walkway just beyond the Delta Hotel, in a spot marked by two totem poles. We will be performing our 10-minute play -- an environmental twist on the traditional English mummers' play -- for tours of audience groups throughout the day.

The Story Wheel
Our
Story
Get to Know Us
Tamarack Theatre was started by Dr. Nancy Curry, a music and theatre practitioner with a research interest in autism and drama and the mom of an autistic writer and actor. We aim to provide drama classes, outreach projects, and polished performances with and for autistic participants, and to create a safe space for autistic voices.
Why Tamarack? Because our mascot is a coniferous tree that turns bright yellow in the fall, and we also intend to defy expectations!
About
My name is Nancy Curry
After a career in music as a collaborative pianist, opera rehearsal pianist, and vocal coach, I decided to go back to university and complete a PhD in a related field -- applied theatre. My research area is autism, as I am also the parent of an autistic child who is now an independent young adult. Her creativity inspired me to create this theatre company for autistic performers and creators, using my love for musical theatre as a way to raise funds for autism theatre projects.
